Support
Our registered midwives support your pre-natal, birth and post-natal needs; options for a comfortable birth place; development of an informed birth plan; partner’s/support person’s active involvement; whole birthing education; emotional and clinical support; understanding of common procedures and midwifery practices; awareness that some circumstances require your choices to change.
The Birth
When your labour starts we come to you as soon as you need us. As your labour progresses you will have all the support you need and the reassurance of an experienced person with you. When the time is right we accompany you into our comfortable birth centre or we look after you at home, whichever you decide.
We know that women’s bodies work smoothly in labour so we avoid unnecessary interventions. We observe the progress of your labour very carefully so that we can take immediate action should any complications arise. Being with someone familiar you can relax and concentrate on your labour, assured that your interests are being looked after.
We will help you through the demanding hours of labour by encouraging different pain-relieving positions and using warm towels on your back, or helping you into a lovely deep warm bath. We also use massage and encouraging and soothing words.
After your baby arrives you will have all the time you need together before we assist you into the shower and bed for a much-deserved rest. Clients using the Birth Centre may choose to stay for up to 24 hours after the birth.
The Centre
Situated across the road from the Queen Victoria Maternity Unit of Launceston General Hospital, we offer a spacious home-like environment with two birthing suites. Each room has been designed so that you’ll feel comfortable and very private. You’ll be attended by a midwife with whom you have formed a real relationship, and who’d accompany you to hospital if it became necessary.
We have a family room and full kitchen facilities available for your support family/friends. There are also large baths for those who would love a water birth (and birth pools available for home births as well).
Our birth centre welcomes your children, your parents, and your friends so you can decide who will be with you or near you as you give birth. We give you a caring and warm setting where you are supported and respected as well as safe and secure.

This is the second time we have used LBC. It is a more natural, more private birthing option. Less confronting, less clinical, more human.Nick and Victoria
Thanks to all the support from my LBC midwives, my husband and the obstetrician who came over to assist with the delivery of my unexpected breech baby, I was still able to have the natural birth experience that I wanted at the Launceston Birth Centre and avoided having to have a caesarean.Leslie
Birthing my baby with the midwives at the Launceston Birth Centre was life changing. After a bad hospital experience with my first birth, this time I felt truly supported and cared for. I birthed my baby girl naturally and the experience has given me a confidence in my own abilities I will take with me the rest of my life. I can’t recommend this enough.Karen
I have nothing but positive emotions about Jonah’s birth. I was hesitant before but also excited and curious about the whole experience. I was amazed at how afterwards I was just on a high and feeling so good. I can honestly say it was an enjoyable and empowering experience. I attribute this to the new knowledge I had, the support from my husband, the care from the amazing midwives and because it was all natural – allowing my body’s appropriate birthing hormones to be released. LOVED IT!Amy
WOW! What an amazing birth! I have never felt through my labours that people have listened to me; this labour was different. The support, care, faith, and strength my midwife gave me was incredible. I was able to birth my child and have the birth I wanted! What a success after two caesareans.Natalie
